This year, Wilfrid Laurier University offered senior history students a unique experience to travel to Russia. Under the tutelage of Dr. Leonard Friesen, HI 411: War and Memory in Russia sent fourteen students to Moscow and St Petersburg to examine memorials, monuments and cemeteries from the Napoleonic era to the Second World War. The tour considered the relationship between these memorial spaces, memory, and their connection to the broader context of over 300 years of Russian history.
